The Western Bulldogs started their 1954 season with 2 losses and then a win-loss sequence from rounds 8 to 15, not looking like premiership contenders. However, they broke the sequence and secured wins against North Melbourne, Essendon, Hawthorn, Geelong until finally, winning the Grand Final against Melbourne 102 to 51.
